Love has its reasons, they say.

Love has its purposes too. It's not out there "just because," only to make us feel good, or even, as it does sometimes, to drive us crazy.

Love intends a result; love has an end in mind. When we say "God is love," we need to remember that.

Listen

"And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that their deeds may not be exposed. But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God."

John 3:19-21

Think

There are certain things that are better done during daylight hours. I became much more aware of this living closer to the equator, where the days don’t get much longer during the summer, and where nights stay more or less the same in the winter. As soon as the light comes — as soon the day dawns — people tend to get up and get on with their day, to get as much done as possible while it is light outside.

In Jesus, God’s light has come into the world. That light scatters the darkness of sin and evil, but also guides the way for us to do the good we are called to do. We know that there will still be times of darkness in our lives, times of questions, of confusion, of uncertainty.

But when the light comes — as soon as Christ’s new day dawns for us — we can get on with the good God is calling us to do.

Pray

Christ Jesus, you are my light and my life. Scatter the darkness in my life, and help me to live in the sunshine of your love. Amen.

Go

Jesus loves you;
This you know,
For the Bible tells you so.
Little ones - like you -
To God belong.
You are weak;
But God's love is strong.
