Ordinary Time

Pause

Quiet your mind and calm your body. Invite God to lead you on the journey of listening to scripture, being open to how God is guiding you.

Listen

This is how we know love: Jesus laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. But if someone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but refuses to help—how can the love of God dwell in a person like that?

1 John 3:16-17

Think

Our passage challenges us to think about how we can show love to others, especially since Jesus loves us so much that he gave his life for us. It is hard to imagine such a precious gift! This selflessness can inspire us to also share and give back to others.

Has someone ever given you such an incredible or generous gift that you didn’t know how to respond or how to reciprocate something so amazing? In a similar way, God’s gift to us is something that we can’t repay. Instead, we can love God and love others as a reflection of God’s love for us. God’s gift also calls us to have compassion for others, and to give back to our community through time and resources.

Question to Ponder:

How can we show God’s love by sharing with others in tangible ways?

Pray

Dear God, I know that all good gifts come from you. Help me to share your good gifts with others, and to share the love from you with my neighbors.

I know that _________ needs to be reminded of your love today. Give me courage to share your love.

Amen.
