When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, reason like a child, think like a child. But now that I have become a man, I’ve put an end to childish things. Now we see a reflection in a mirror; then we will see face-to-face. Now I know partially, but then I will know completely in the same way that I have been completely known.

Think

There are many ways to communicate with people. Messaging, phone calls, email, video calls, and social media are all tools we use, but there is nothing better than face to face. To be in someone’s physical presence and connect over a meal or coffee is a different level of intimacy.

As Paul teaches the Corinthians, he indicates that the tools they take so much pride in for their brand of spirituality are largely childish. Perhaps it was a prideful attitude he was addressing more than the tools. Regardless, he makes it clear that they need to mature.

Everything we do is like a dimly lit mirror compared to the fullness of God, once God’s Kingdom is revealed. It’s a lot like the difference between being fully present with someone, hearing their tone, seeing their body language and looking into their eyes over conversation as opposed to texting.

Each day offers a new opportunity to know God more fully. Are you satisfied with knowing only in part, or are you seeking to know God more fully?

God, don’t let me be satisfied that I know the mysteries of your ways. May my eyes and heart remain open to the awe and wonder of who you are. Amen.
