Love moves us to understand that we are created to live in relationship with God, with others, and with all of creation.

Listen

Don’t get upset over evildoers; don’t be jealous of those who do wrong, because they will fade fast, like grass; they will wither like green vegetables. Trust the Lord and do good; live in the land, and farm faithfulness.

Psalm 37:1-3

Think

It’s very difficult for me to keep my focus when I’m studying. I have trouble staying on task, between noises and distractions. However, when I can finally concentrate, everything works out better and the learning goes smoothly. The same thing happens when we love justice: when we focus on helping people, everything runs better. The psalmist expresses frustration at the prosperity of the wicked but invites us not to fall into the comparison. Instead of worrying about what others have, we are called to delight in God’s righteousness.

Our way of worshipping God, not just in a temple but every day of our lives, has to do with justice, with doing good to other people without looking at “competition.” A love of justice is born from a heart that trusts that God is in control, even when appearances say otherwise. By focusing on faithfulness and divine justice, we find peace and contentment that the world cannot offer.

Question to Ponder:

How can you cultivate a love for justice that will drive you to trust God more?

Pray

Righteous God, teach me to trust in your righteousness and to delight in your faithfulness. Amen.
