Ordinary Time
Great is God’s faithfulness!
God’s compassion never fails.
God’s mercy never ends.
God’s care never fades.
The Lord is close to everyone who calls out to him, to all who call out to him sincerely. God shows favor to those who honor him, listening to their cries for help and saving them.
Psalm 145:18-19
God is close to us, always there to listen, always caring. Knowing that God is close can lead us to joy. We can praise God and be thankful for all that God has done and is doing.
Knowing that God is close also helps us when things are not well. In the middle of struggle and pain, discouragement and tragedy, we remember that we are not alone. God is close to us.
Knowing that God is close pushes us to notice where God is present around us. We can see God if we will pay attention. Do you notice God in nature? In other people? In music or exercise or art or writing? Where do you notice God?
Knowing that God is close calls us to be God’s presence to others. We can be a reflection of God’s mercy and care, of the love and kindness God offers to all.

Question to Ponder:
Where have you noticed God lately?
Ever-present God, thank you that you are always close to me.
Help me to pay attention to your presence all around me.
Fill me with your mercy and care that I might be your presence to others.
Amen.
Each of us and all of us are held in God’s abundant mercy and constant care.
