Ordinary Time
Great is God’s faithfulness!
God’s compassion never fails.
God’s mercy never ends.
God’s care never fades.
All of you who are thirsty, come to the water! Whoever has no money, come, buy food and eat! Without money, at no cost, buy wine and milk! Why spend money for what isn’t food, and your earnings for what doesn’t satisfy? Listen carefully to me and eat what is good; enjoy the richest of feasts. Listen and come to me; listen, and you will live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful loyalty to David.
Isaiah 55:1-3
Come! We see and hear ads constantly. We’re promised a lot: Come! Eat this, and you’ll love the way it tastes. Wear these clothes, and you’ll be cool. Buy this phone, and it’ll solve your problems. Use these shoes, and you’ll be faster. Go to this school, and you’ll become successful. What is it that you’re thirsty for right now? Come and find what you want!
We’re all thirsty for something, and sometimes we’re not quite sure what we’re searching for. All of this stuff we’re offered may be good, at least for a little while. We enjoy it, but eventually we get thirsty again. We find that all of these things — money, power, other people, fancy stuff — none of that brings us hope, joy, or peace that lasts.
God invites us to “come.” We find that God cares for us and walks with us through everything. God’s mercy and steadfast love never fade or go out of style. We don’t have to pay for God’s care or compete with anyone else. That’s good news!

Question to Ponder:
Why do we think that more stuff will make us happy?
Loving God, sometimes I get caught up in wanting more.
Thank you that your mercy and care never fade or go out of style.
Help me be content in your love.
Amen.
Each of us and all of us are held in God’s abundant mercy and constant care.
