Journey to the Cross
Near the cross! O lamb of God,
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day
With its shadow o’er me.
In the cross, in the cross
Be my glory ever,
Till my ransomed soul shall find
Rest beyond the river.
Fanny Crosby in “Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross” (1869)
But me? I trust you, Lord! I affirm, “You are my God.”
My future is in your hands. Don’t hand me over to my enemies, to all who are out to get me!
Shine your face on your servant; save me by your faithful love!
Psalm 31:14-16
Who do you think of when you hear the phrase, “My future is in your hands”? Do you think of the teachers who grade your schoolwork? The parents who set expectations and boundaries? Friends or classmates who help determine your social life?
While all of those people can have influence over us, it sure is great to know that the future is truly in the hands of God. And God’s ways are bigger and greater than anyone else might offer us.
God wants the best for us, so following God’s ways will lead us to a path that is full of love and light. That doesn’t mean that life won’t ever be hard, but we can know that the intention God has for us is the best possible way for us to live.
How might you put your future in God’s hands today? Whose opinion or what action might you need to give up for God to have free reign in your life? It will be worth it to be led by God’s faithful love every step of the way!

Dear God, it’s exciting to know that you have a great plan for me! Help me to look to you for what is next.
Encourage me to depend on you for my future when other things might try to pull my focus.
Thank you for caring enough about me to want the best for me.
Amen.
Near the cross! I’ll watch and wait,
Hoping, trusting ever;
Till I reach the golden strand,
Just beyond the river.
In the cross, in the cross
Be my glory ever,
Till my ransomed soul shall find
Rest beyond the river.
Fanny Crosby in “Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross” (1869)
