Ordinary Time

Pause

Some mountains are tall, and some mountains are small.

But whatever your mountain is, God is already there.

Listen

It is written, You will be holy, because I am holy. Since you call upon a Father who judges all people according to their actions without favoritism, you should conduct yourselves with reverence during the time of your dwelling in a strange land. Live in this way, knowing that you were not liberated by perishable things like silver or gold from the empty lifestyle you inherited from your ancestors. Instead, you were liberated by the precious blood of Christ, like that of a flawless, spotless lamb. Christ was chosen before the creation of the world, but was only revealed at the end of time. This was done for you, who through Christ are faithful to the God who raised him from the dead and gave him glory. So now, your faith and hope should rest in God.

1 Peter 1:16-21

Think

In my town, I see lots of yard signs that say “You Are Enough,” “You Are Loved,” “Vales Mucho,” and “You Are Not Alone.” Maybe you’ve seen similar signs. As person of faith, I would add another sign – “You are Holy.”

“You will be holy, because I am holy.” That’s a reference to the book of Leviticus, so we’re talking old school stuff here. We are made holy not because of what we have achieved or because we have been voted most popular, but because God makes us holy. The only one who can pass judgement is God, and God has already declared: “You will be holy, because I am holy.”

You are holy because God made you and because God loves you. Being who we are, who we’re made to be, and doing that in faith and hope, is what God wants, hopes, and expects of us. God’s love comes to us first, long before we can love God back. God makes us holy before we can do anything to earn it. So remember, “You are holy!” Thanks be to God.

Pray

Loving God, I am overwhelmed by your love that reaches out to me. Move and empower me to reach out to those in need of your love this day and every day so that all your children know that they are enough and that they are loved. Amen.

Go

Go climb your mountain and see that God is holy!
