Ordinary Time
In love, we discover that God is always present. When love dwells in your heart, the image of God becomes visible in you.
If I had cherished evil in my heart, my Lord would not have listened. But God definitely listened. He heard the sound of my prayer. Bless God! He didn’t reject my prayer; he didn’t withhold his faithful love from me.
Psalm 66:18-20
I have heard it said that words have power. Jesus taught us that our words are born from the heart. And in the Bible, the heart is the place where our deepest thoughts live. Every morning I take an inventory of my thoughts: the day’s tasks, my relationships, pending conversations. Some thoughts are positive, but others are not so positive. Sometimes I realize that I need to return to love to heal a relationship that has broken down.
Today, our scripture invites us to look at our thoughts before God. God hears our prayers. God knows what is going on inside us. Thinking from a perspective of love brings us closer to God and to people. Our thoughts need to focus on God’s grace for us and affirm grace for other people. When we let God always dwell in our thoughts, we learn to talk with God in freedom and trust.

Question to Ponder:
What thoughts make you feel far from God?
Lord, help me to change the thoughts that do not strengthen my relationship with you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Set aside a few minutes to be in silence before God. Then go and demonstrate God’s presence with a concrete gesture of kindness.
