Following the Star

Pause

I want to be an instrument of your peace
I want to talk about your love
of what you did for me
How can I forget?
I want to help others
That’s my prayer

Here are my hands
Here is my voice
Here are my feet
I want to go
Use my life if I am useful to you
God

translated from Spanish, Daniel Calvetti in “Instrumento de tu Paz” (2009)

Listen

The wolf will live with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat; the calf and the young lion will feed together, and a little child will lead them. The cow and the bear will graze. Their young will lie down together, and a lion will eat straw like an ox. A nursing child will play over the snake’s hole; toddlers will reach right over the serpent’s den.

Isaiah 11:6-8

Think

Have you ever held back from taking advantage of someone’s vulnerability? Jesus could have exploited all your vulnerabilities. He once had the opportunity to throw a stone at a woman allegedly found in adultery. Yet, he did not.

Why? Because objectification, exploitation, and bullying are not values born out of God’s heart or the Kingdom of Heaven. You do not need to be a hunter, a perpetrator, or an oppressor. You do not need to feel “more than” or “less than” others. Trust, humility, harmony, and unity are available for your peace.

Today, you can become an instrument of God’s peace. Throw the stone to the ground because the Kingdom of Heaven is here, literally, in your hands.

Pray

God, let me see the world as you see it.

Help me live out your Kingdom of peace and harmony.

Teach me to love others so deeply that I can focus on the need and empowerment of those around me, instead of my own personal gain and profit.

Amen.

Go

Only in God do I find rest; my salvation comes from him.

Psalm 62:1
