Following the Star

Pause

God’s peace is ever-present and ever-available to us. Take time this day to be still and feel God’s peace around you.

Jesus says: “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give you. I give to you not as the world gives. Don’t be troubled or afraid.” (John 14:27)

Listen

Let the righteous flourish throughout their lives, and let peace prosper until the moon is no more.

Bless the Lord God, the God of Israel— the only one who does wondrous things! Bless God’s glorious name forever; let his glory fill all the earth! Amen and Amen!

Psalm 72:7, 18-19

Think

Each year this season seems to be full of contrasting statements. There are messages encouraging us to slow down while just around the corner is a huge sale with warnings of a looming deadline, urging us to act now.

The most recent trend I’ve seen is the “Christmas To-Do List,” which draws attention to these contrasts of the season. It has a list of things to do, with key words scratched out and substituted. For example, instead of “buy presents,” it’s been changed to “be present.” Instead of “make cookies,” it says “make time for people.” “See the lights” is amended to “be the light.”

Could it really be that easy?

If we step back and look at the list and the changes made, it seems like they truly come from a place of gratitude and from a desire to be instead of do.

When we are still and are truly grateful for the wondrous things that God does, we can sense God’s peace – a peace that passes all understanding. Those blessings, your blessings, will spread God’s glory and fill all the earth.

Pray

God of glory, you have done and continue to do wondrous things. Give me eyes to see, with wonder, all that is your creation. Amen.

Go

Go into the world in Peace, to love and serve the Lord.
