Ordinary Time
I will call upon your Name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

When the man saw that he couldn’t defeat Jacob, he grabbed Jacob’s thigh and tore a muscle in Jacob’s thigh as he wrestled with him. The man said, “Let me go because the dawn is breaking.”
But Jacob said, “I won’t let you go until you bless me.”
Genesis 32:25-26
When I went to college my world was rocked. Initially, I was excited about a new experience, but as the days continued, I quickly became terribly homesick. There were long late-night conversations filled with tears. And though I was constantly surrounded by friends, I felt incredibly alone.
As God calls us out of our comfort zones, God never promises it will be easy. In the darkness Jacob meets a stranger and they wrestle with one another throughout the night, refusing to let go.
In life we will wrestle, not just with other people, but with ourselves and even with God. And the important part is that we, like Jacob, hold on. That we hold tight to God until that beautiful moment when the day breaks… When the clouds part, the sun rises, and you receive your blessing. Consider today how God might be calling you to hold on and hold fast.

God,
Today, I confess
My want to take the easy path.
Give me the courage
To wrestle honestly with myself and with my faith.
Give me strength to
Hold tighter even when I feel like letting go.
Amen.
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Saviour
