Praise God from whom all blessings flow;

Praise God, all creatures here below;

Praise God for all that love has done;

Creator, Christ, and Spirit, One.

William B. Abernathy, the Doxology (adapted 1995)

Listen

Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the earth! You made your glory higher than heaven! From the mouths of nursing babies you have laid a strong foundation because of your foes, in order to stop vengeful enemies. When I look up at your skies, at what your fingers made— the moon and the stars that you set firmly in place— what are human beings that you think about them; what are human beings that you pay attention to them?

Psalm 8:1-4

Think

We’re preparing to welcome two little baby gingers into the world. We’re also preparing a toddler with a huge personality to do the same. Since we shared the news with that lively toddler, we have seen immense love pour out of him. He wants to say “hello” and “goodnight” to the babies. He wants to share his toys with them. He wants to sing to them.

Seeing a two-year-old show such gracious love reminds me of how great our God is. God created the heavens and the earth. God created all of life and humanity. God created the life-Sabbath flow. God is so incredibly massive and powerful that it’s hard to believe God could even care what we do. Yet, God does. It’s baffling!

God gave creation a guiding light in the Holy Spirit to remind us that we are made in God’s divine image. And just like our toddler reminds us of how our love for him guides his love for his brother and sister, our listening to God’s Spirit reflects God’s original love for us.

Pray

Creator God, Savior Jesus, Guiding Holy Presence, thank you for caring for me. The way you love and care for me teaches me how to love and care for all of your creation. Give me strength to reflect your love and humility to understand I’m but a small piece of your vast creation. Amen.

Go

Go now, knowing the God of Creation, Savior of all people and Divine Presence, goes before you to where you’re headed, stays behind with the things you leave, walks alongside you every step of the way, and works within you to redeem what you believe to be broken.
