Sharing our personal thoughts and prayers can seem intimidating and uncomfortable. But just as those in the early church had to overcome those fears, we do too. The more we practice opening our lives to others, the easier it may become.

We would all benefit if we all became more transparent and more humble to ask for help or prayer.

Listen

Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

Acts 2:46-47

Think

When you think of living your faith together with others, it is likely you think of others in your youth group or in your church. Yet we live life together most intimately with those with whom we share family ties. Our family knows us best. They know our strengths, our faults, and our struggles.

Today’s passage tells us the early church didn’t just live life together in the temple. They lived out their faith in the place that is often most difficult – their homes. They brought it right into their living rooms. That must have been difficult. Yet as they did this, many were added to the faith. As they lived out their faith at home, others noticed.

It isn’t enough to just live out this life together in your youth group or at church. How can you be a part of living out your faith at home, even if your whole family does not believe?

Pray

God, help me to live out my faith in front of my family and those closest to me. Give me the courage to love my family the way Jesus has loved me. Amen.

Prayer is more than just a quiet time with God. It is entering into a community (a life together) as we seek to experience and be the presence of Christ. How might you open your life to others as you seek to be the answer to their prayers?
