Journey to the Cross

Pause

A journey to the cross lies before you.

Will you go?

Preparation is part of the journey.

What you will take with you?
Which way will you go?
Who will join you?

Rest assured, God will be with you on your way.

Listen

“When you pray, don’t be like hypocrites. They love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners so that people will see them. I assure you, that’s the only reward they’ll get. But when you pray, go to your room, shut the door, and pray to your Father who is present in that secret place. Your Father who sees what you do in secret will reward you.”

Matthew 6:5-6

Think

My son loves to fish. He showed me how they make the fish look larger in photos by holding it away from their bodies, closer to the camera.

How often do we try make our prayers look bigger to other people?

I have a beautiful blue velvet chair near the kitchen where I sit in the morning with my coffee and devotional to pray. Sometimes, I am distracted by people moving about the kitchen, and other times, when I’m alone, I speak so freely to God. In the silence, I can hear God speaking back.

Prayer is helpful to prepare for your Lenten journey to the cross. Take care that you are not so concerned with what others see, so you can leave lots of room for God in your prayers.

Pray

Lord, let my prayers be to you and for you. I pray that my heart would seek you in all I do. Amen.

Go

You are my strength when I am weak,
You are the treasure that I seek;
You are my all in all.

Seeking You as a precious jewel,
Lord, to give up I’d be a fool;
You are my all in all.
