Make room for the real important stuff.

But as for you, man of God, run away from all these things. Instead, pursue righteousness, holy living, faithfulness, love, endurance, and gentleness. Compete in the good fight of faith. Grab hold of eternal life—you were called to it, and you made a good confession of it in the presence of many witnesses.

1 Timothy 6:11-12

Think

In my church tradition, a person is baptized when she or he makes the decision, at whatever age, to follow Christ. For me, this was at age 7. I vividly remember the worship service at my home church where I confessed to my pastor in front of my church that I was a sinner who needed Christ and wanted to follow Jesus.

I remember the day I went under the baptismal waters looking out into the sanctuary seeing the smiling faces of my church family who affirmed my decision to be a Christ-follower.

What about you? Can you recall a moment in your life when you felt the Spirit’s call to follow Christ? How did you confess that to others so they would know and spur you on?

When life is hard and we question our journey of faith, we can look back recalling those holy moments that anchor us. It is important to remember and celebrate our calling and our commitment. It gives us strength to keep fighting the good fight of faith.

Pray

God, thank you for holy moments on which I can anchor my faith journey when I am struggling to find my way. Thank you for sisters and brothers in Christ who cheer me on. Help me to faithfully run the race set before me with endurance, gentleness, and love. Amen.

Today, make room for God to reveal God’s self to you through the people you encounter, the beauty of God’s creation, and the quiet whispers of God’s Spirit.

And as your soul is filled with the reality of God’s limitless love for you, may it crowd out all the unimportant stuff that weighs you down, freeing you to share that love with others.
