Pause

God continues to do amazing things for those who realize how valuable they are and seek first the kingdom of God.

Take time now to seek the place where God reigns, beginning in your own heart. Then watch for the amazing things that God causes all around.

Listen

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"

Matthew 6:25-26

Think

Many if not most of us who read these verses don’t worry about the basics of life. Our bigger concern is our image – watching our weight, wearing the “right” brand. Do I super-size the chili cheese fries or go with Paula Dean’s casserole? Can I afford the latest 4G smart phone; can I live in the “cloud”?

For many if not most other people, these words of Jesus don’t sound so reassuring. They do worry about food, clothes, health care, unemployment, and providing for themselves and their families.

Jesus invites us to think about how valuable we are to God and to each other, and how much we can trust God to provide. How we hear Jesus depends on our wants and our needs.

We give thanks for the gift of daily bread and for the opportunity and command to help feed and clothe those who do worry.

Pray

Lord, forgive me when I think less of myself and others than you do. May my anxious thoughts lead me to trust you and serve the needs of others. Amen.
