Ordinary Time

Pause

As we read the words of Scripture, take a moment and reflect on how God’s word has encouraged you and could bring action steps into your life.

“For the word of God is living and active…” (Hebrews 4:12, ESV)

Listen

“Make them holy in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. I made myself holy on their behalf so that they also would be made holy in the truth.”

John 17:17-19

Think

Jesus sends his disciples into the world carrying the truth. That’s a difficult task! God’s truths are not always popular. But as Jesus says, the truth makes us holy. And the truth sets us free, as Jesus says in another passage (John 8:32). The more time we spend reading the Bible and encountering God’s word, the more we desire truth and holiness. This sets us free to be like Christ and love others in the world.

I have met people who displayed Christ so well, and they all had something in common. They were lovers and students of the Bible. This didn’t just happen for them overnight; they spent daily time studying. In Scripture, we encounter Jesus Christ, the word of God made flesh. I have noticed in my own life that the more time I spend reading the Bible, the easier it is to love like Christ and share his truths.

“For the word of the Lord is right and true.” Psalm 33:4 (NIV)

God, give me a heart to study the Bible. Create in me a desire to imitate Christ. Thank you that your word makes me holy and free, because it is true. Amen.
