Listen

You set a table for me right in front of my enemies. You bathe my head in oil; my cup is so full it spills over! Yes, goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the Lord’s house as long as I live.

Psalm 23:5-6

Think

The palace at Versailles in France is the epitome of extravagant. Nothing about it is minimal or understated, nothing is restrained, nothing is lacking. It is gold-encrusted and hand-carved; it is a work of art. It is the very definition of lavish. Even the king’s bathtub requires its own staircase.

Nevertheless, even Versailles cannot approach the extravagant measure of God’s grace. These small vignettes paint a picture of that divine extravagance. A set table with no expense spared. Oil poured so liberally, it is not just referred to as a drizzle but as a bath. A cup, not just filled to the top, but overflowing and spilling. This is extravagant. This is the life God wants us to receive: a life so luxurious in goodness and love that it pales the material splendor of Versailles.

Pray

Lavish God, show me your unrestrained grace so that I may overflow positive change into others. Help me to be open to receiving the life you want for me. Amen.
