Ordinary Time

Pause

Vision brings new understanding, like turning on a lamp in a dark room at night. Pray that God will bring new vision - and new understanding - to you as you consider the scripture and wait for insight.

Listen

He took me in a Spirit-inspired trance to a great, high mountain, and he showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. I didn’t see a temple in the city, because its temple is the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb. The city doesn’t need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because God’s glory is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. Its gates will never be shut by day, and there will be no night there. They will bring the glory and honor of the nations into it. Nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is vile and deceitful, but only those who are registered in the Lamb’s scroll of life.

Revelation 21:10, 22-27

Think

I saw a tower of light today. It is a 40-story tower that literally glows in sunlight. It is a breathtaking vision. It glows because thousands of giant mirrors are set to focus the sun’s rays onto one spot at the top of the tower. This Spanish power plant creates zero emission power by using the sun’s light and heat to turn water into steam that turns huge turbines. They store the heat so that at night the turbines still turn and create power.

I can imagine this light brighter still and burning 24/7 – no night, no darkness. There is a future beyond our imaginings. God’s goal is for all creation to experience redemption – the world, and all its people. As the earth groans for that day, when it comes, it will be full of light and peace and truth, and there will be no more guilt or sin. It is God’s vision to redeem you now. No need to wait until the future time of Revelation. There is no need to wait. We can see the light now – if we look in the right places.

Pray

God, I want to be redeemed. I want to live in the light, and in the heat of your transforming presence. Turn my thoughts into actions toward others. Turn my life on to what matters and where you would lead me. Through Christ the Lamb, amen.

Go

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art -
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
