Ordinary Time

Pause

Vision brings new understanding, like turning on a lamp in a dark room at night. Pray that God will bring new vision - and new understanding - to you as you consider the scripture and wait for insight.

Listen

Let God grant us grace and bless us; let God make his face shine on us.  Selah  So that your way becomes known on earth, so that your salvation becomes known among all the nations.

Let the people thank you, God! Let all the people thank you! Let the people celebrate and shout with joy because you judge the nations fairly and guide all nations on the earth.  Selah  Let the people thank you, God! Let all the people thank you!

The earth has yielded its harvest. God blesses us—our God blesses us! Let God continue to bless us; let the far ends of the earth honor him.

Psalm 67

Think

We have a vision. It is clear: God is among us, God is working for good, and God is blessing the world.

We have a response. It is obvious: As God is near, we feel an overwhelming sense of security and thankfulness and awe.

We have a calling. It is compelling: God is calling us to work for equality, to share freely, to take care of the earth as it yields an ever-growing increase, and to share the good news about our great God.

We see God in so many things from the ordinary to the extraordinary. We are compelled to praise, to sing for joy, to be glad with the God we recognize and serve and worship. It is hard to say it any better than the psalmist, but it is easy to join in praising our God who judges the people with equality and who guides the nations upon the earth. Indeed, let the ends of the earth revere our God.

Pray

God, I offer you my humble and thankful praise. I am grateful for your blessing. I also know that with your blessing comes the requirement to share and give and involve myself ever more in your work on this earth. You have gifted me for a reason, and I am compelled to action, springing forth from my praise. Help me to find my point of action today – spending myself on behalf of you God and your people. Amen.

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art -
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
