Journey to the Cross

Pause

In a world of death and despair

where suffering, isolation, violence, and pain overwhelm us,

we are shown a world of rising and living,

where hope, healing, love, and justice have the last and final word.

Listen

Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so must the Human One be lifted up so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.

John 3:14-15

Think

This week we focus on Jesus as the way to eternal life. Yes, I know there are complicated issues to address in a pluralistic world with this idea.

To be clear, we do not enter this week with the goal of proving that Jesus is the only way to eternal life, but rather what it might mean if each of us chooses to believe that this is our individual truth.

On this first day, we begin with the assumption that we have chosen to believe in this Jesus who, through his life, death, and resurrection, connects us to God for eternity.

If we believe that we have eternal life through and in Christ, what does that mean for how we live our lives? How does that eternal life inform our daily life?

This week, let’s muse and wonder together.

Question to Ponder:

What does eternal life in Christ mean for how we live our daily lives?

Pray

Inhale: God, you are here.

Exhale: Grant me the courage to know you more fully.

Go

Go forth into the world with justice and compassion in your heart.

Amplify voices of the long silenced.

Name strength in that which has been deemed weak.

Hear one another.

See one another.

Care for one another.

And love one another.

It’s all that easy.

And it’s all that hard.
