The human struggle is often about finding a safe, secure place and then having a sense that one's life is worthwhile, productive.

So, where to find that safety? And how do you come to know that life is worth living?

The best place to start is at the source, in the presence of the Creator.

Listen

Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion; and to you shall vows be performed,

O you who answer prayer! To you all flesh shall come.

When deeds of iniquity overwhelm us, you forgive our transgressions.

Happy are those whom you choose and bring near to live in your courts. We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, your holy temple.

Psalm 65:1-4

Think

We are bombarded with advertisements all day long. From our Facebook feeds to billboards and TV commercials, each ad is designed to convince us that there is something else we need to be happy, successful, or satisfied.

We may “bite” and buy what they are offering, but the cycle will begin all over again tomorrow.

The good news is that today’s psalm offers us a much different message. Instead of pushing products we don’t need, God offers us the gifts of answered prayer, forgiveness for our misdeeds, and the blessing of being drawn to God – in this life and the next.

With these gifts, the psalmist tells us, we can be truly satisfied.

Pray

God, I confess that it is so hard to hear your voice in our chaotic world. Help me to look past the barrage of ads and to remember that my salvation comes from you. Open my heart to receive your gifts and teach me to be satisfied in you alone. Accept my praise and thanksgiving today and every day. Amen.

As we work together with him, we urge you also not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says,

“At an acceptable time I have listened to you,
and on a day of salvation I have helped you.”

See, now is the acceptable time; see, now is the day of salvation!
