Journey to the Cross

Pause

This week, we share this Good News: Christ is Risen! Our long wait is over!

Stop and take a deep breath, breathing in the joy of Easter morning; breathe out the fear and doubt of the night that has passed.

God sees you today and loves you as you are.

Who needs to be seen by you today? Look up, so you can share the good news.

Listen

Look at how good and pleasing it is when families live together as one! It is like expensive oil poured over the head, running down onto the beard— Aaron’s beard!— which extended over the collar of his robes. It is like the dew on Mount Hermon streaming down onto the mountains of Zion, because it is there that the Lord has commanded the blessing: everlasting life.

Psalm 133:1-3

Think

As we continue in the joy of Easter week, we are reminded of the early church that held everything in common, sharing as each had need. This Psalm speaks of the importance of unity in our families and in the Family of God.

How great is living together in harmony? Since most of us have no idea what pouring oil on a beard is like, what about another analogy? Maybe it’s a hot cup of coffee on a cold winter morning or an unexpected smile in the rush of the day. What does Christian harmony feel like to you?

Why, just a couple of days after Easter, are we suddenly talking about unity in the church? Perhaps it is because if we work together in harmony, we can extend the message of Christ with greater power and passion. Most of us are bolder when we are with our friends. If your church is like most, the pews were full on Easter Sunday. So let’s keep that community engaged and sharing the Lord’s gift to us – everlasting life!

Pray

God of beards and coffee, I am grateful for your gifts to us – including the gift of life everlasting. I want to share your gracious Good News with those I encounter today – and I want to share the harmony that comes when we live and work and sing and pray together as one. Amen.
