Pause

God of glory and strength, come and sit with me.

Open me up to your light and truth.

God of glory and joy, come and be still with me.

Guide me in all I say and do.

Moses came down from Mount Sinai. As he came down from the mountain with the two covenant tablets in his hand, Moses didn’t realize that the skin of his face shone brightly because he had been talking with God. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw the skin of Moses’ face shining brightly, they were afraid to come near him. But Moses called them closer. So Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and Moses spoke with them. After that, all the Israelites came near as well, and Moses commanded them everything that the Lord had spoken with him on Mount Sinai. When Moses finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face.

Exodus 34:29-33

Think

Body language. Research indicates that non-verbal cues are not only significant tools for communication but also a natural barometer of one’s emotions.

We’ve heard of the expression, “You can just tell from the look on her face.” Or better yet, “It’s written all over her face!” No room for poker face. Rather, the non-verbal expression is captured physically, and it’s there for all to see.

This is what happens to Moses. And all because he was talking with God. A conversation with the Holy One. A literal mountain top experience. It’s an experience that his very own body couldn’t contain. This is what happens when we engage in an intimate relationship with the Holy One. It’s a relationship that forever changes us. The change is so real that everyone around us can tell something is different, and it’s there for all to see. The best part is — we don’t need a mountain. We simply need to confess that yes, we can’t go at this alone. We need you, God. Come and be the change in our life.
