Journey to the Cross
God’s ways are not our ways.
Jesus said:
Happy are you when people insult you… You are the salt of the earth… Love your enemies… Don’t worry… It’s impossible for human beings. But all things are possible for God… The truth will set you free.
Matthew 5:11, 13, 44; 6:31; 19:26, John 8:32
Let’s seek God’s wisdom for our lives.
Honoring the Lord is correct, lasting forever. The Lord’s judgments are true. All of these are righteous! They are more desirable than gold— than tons of pure gold! They are sweeter than honey— even dripping off the honeycomb! No doubt about it: your servant is enlightened by them; there is great reward in keeping them.
Psalm 19:9-11
One of my kid’s favorite books is The Bee Tree by Patricia Polacco (1993). In it, Mary Ellen is tired of her readings when her grandpa invites her into a rollicking run through the countryside, chasing a bee to its honey tree.
Later, he spoons honey on the cover of one of her books. “‘Taste,’ he said, almost in a whisper. […] ‘There is such sweetness inside of that book, too […] adventure, knowledge and wisdom. But these things do not come easily. You have to pursue them. Just like we ran after the bees to find their tree, so you must also chase these things through the pages of a book!’”
Likewise, we are each invited to run after God through the pages of the Bible! Today, will you seek out God’s wisdom as it truly is — sweeter than honey from a honeycomb? And when you do, will you let your heart and mind savor it such that your whole life takes on the flavor of God’s sweetness?

God, would you increase my sense of wonder in you today? Help me experience your sweetness today and in the wholeness of my life. Amen.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to you, Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
Psalm 19:14
