Journey to the Cross

Pause

God’s ways are not our ways.

Jesus said:

Happy are you when people insult you... You are the salt of the earth... Love your enemies... Don’t worry... It’s impossible for human beings. But all things are possible for God... The truth will set you free.

Matthew 5:11, 13, 44; 6:31; 19:26, John 8:32

Let’s seek God’s wisdom for our lives.

Listen

But can anyone know what they’ve accidentally done wrong? Clear me of any unknown sin and save your servant from willful sins. Don’t let them rule me. Then I’ll be completely blameless; I’ll be innocent of great wrongdoing.

Psalm 19:12-13

Think

Sin. There is no getting away from it. Today’s verses from Psalm 19 talk of sin that is accidental… sin that is unknown… and sin that is willful. And we plead, don’t let any of these sins rule my life.

There are two ways I think about any sort of sin ruling my life. Some sin hides internally, known or unknown, and is so part of me that I can’t see a way to do without it. Other sin doesn’t hide, and it feels like everyone knows it, labels me with it… until I buy into the lie that I can’t live free of it.

But thanks be to God! Jesus came to save us from all these sins. Jesus gives us the vision we need to do life without the sins that hang so close. And he gives us the strength to cast them aside. Jesus fulfills these last verses, adopting us into God’s family, making us blameless and innocent of great wrongdoing.

Pray

God, thank you that you know me better than I know me and that nothing is hidden from you. More than that, I’m sorry where sin has defined me more than your life, and I turn from these sins. Thank you for your forgiveness. Please show me how to receive and meditate on forgiveness in the power of your Spirit. Amen.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to you, Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
