Journey to the Cross
A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,
a wonderful Savior to me.
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,
where rivers of pleasure I see.
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock
that shadows a dry, thirsty land.
He hideth my life in the depths of his love,
and covers me there with his hand,
and covers me there with his hand.
Fanny Crosby in “He Hideth My Soul” (1890)
Our citizenship is in heaven. We look forward to a savior that comes from there—the Lord Jesus Christ. He will transform our humble bodies so that they are like his glorious body, by the power that also makes him able to subject all things to himself.
Therefore, my brothers and sisters whom I love and miss, who are my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord.
Philippians 3:20-4:1a
Think about a person you deeply admire. What qualities draw you to them? Do you do things to be more like them? Adopt their mannerisms? Model your life after them? It’s human nature to seek to be like the person who you admire; the person who is a shelter for your soul.
Now think about God. Do you do things to model your life after Jesus? What qualities and values did Jesus live out that are worth emulating in your own life? Do you give priority to things in your own life that were important to Jesus?
Scripture says that you are made in God’s image and that your body will be transformed by the glory of God. Seek comfort in the fact that God is drawing you closer in likeness.
Elizabeth Cervasio
O God, thank you for drawing me into your glory!
It is my heart’s desire to be more like you.
Help me to see the ways I am being transformed.
Amen.
A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord;
he taketh my burden away.
He holdeth me up, and I shall not be moved;
he giveth me strength as my day.
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock
that shadows a dry, thirsty land.
He hideth my life in the depths of his love,
and covers me there with his hand,
and covers me there with his hand.
Fanny Crosby in “He Hideth My Soul” (1890)
