Journey to the Cross
A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,
a wonderful Savior to me.
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,
where rivers of pleasure I see.
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock
that shadows a dry, thirsty land.
He hideth my life in the depths of his love,
and covers me there with his hand,
and covers me there with his hand.
Fanny Crosby in “He Hideth My Soul” (1890)
When evildoers come at me trying to eat me up— it’s they, my foes and my enemies, who stumble and fall!
If an army camps against me, my heart won’t be afraid. If war comes up against me, I will continue to trust in this:
I have asked one thing from the Lord— it’s all I seek: to live in the Lord’s house all the days of my life, seeing the Lord’s beauty and constantly adoring his temple.
Because he will shelter me in his own dwelling during troubling times; he will hide me in a secret place in his own tent; he will set me up high, safe on a rock.
Psalm 27:2-5
Think about the last time things didn’t go your way but you weren’t worried about it. What was it that gave you faith that everything would be okay? Trust may not be easy to come by, but it feels so good when you have it!
Trust is built over time. And every time the one you put your trust in comes through for you, it is easier and easier to continue to trust in them. Trust is also a two-way street. It takes vulnerability. Trusting in God can be scary because you cannot hear or touch God.
Look for little ways that God has your back; ways that God is coming through for you. Recognizing the small ways God is there for you will help your trust in God grow. And when you have trust in God, there isn’t much that can shake you!
Elizabeth Cervasio
God, I trust you.
I know that even when the world turns against me, you will always be there for me.
Thank you for being my shelter and my strength.
Please shelter and strengthen those in this world who are facing war, conflict, and other big or small crises today.
Amen.
A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord;
he taketh my burden away.
He holdeth me up, and I shall not be moved;
he giveth me strength as my day.
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock
that shadows a dry, thirsty land.
He hideth my life in the depths of his love,
and covers me there with his hand,
and covers me there with his hand.
