Ordinary Time

Pause

Show me the way, show me the way. / Take me tonight to the river / and wash my illusions away. / Please, show me the way.

Show me the way, show me the way. / Bring me tonight to the mountain / and take my confusion away. / And show me the way.

Show me the way, show me the way. / Give me the strength and the courage / to believe that I'll get there someday. / And please show me the way.

Listen

Thomas asked, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going. How can we know the way?”

Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you have really known me, you will also know the Father. From now on you know him and have seen him.”

John 14:5-7

Think

How well do you really know those around you? Your coworkers and classmates, neighbors and family – you know them, but do you really know them?

Jesus says that if we really know him, then we also know God. But there is a difference between knowing about Jesus and having a relationship with him. We can have scripture memorized and sing all the right songs, but if we don’t do the work to truly get to know Jesus, we’re missing the mark. That’s the difference between head faith and heart faith.

What is your relationship with Christ like? Are you “friends” more in the social media sense, or do you really know him? Getting to know Jesus allows us to get to know God, in whose image we were created. And what a beautiful image that is.

Pray

Creator God, you made me in your image and called me “good.” Help me to grow closer to you, so that I may see your goodness in me, and be better equipped to share that goodness with others. Amen.
