Little stories. Illustrations. Vignettes. All intended to crack the door to just a little more understanding.

Jesus offered a lot of these kinds of openings. He still does. Look to see what kind of new light might brighten your understanding just now.

Listen

He also said, "The kingdom of God is as if someone would scatter seed on the ground, and would sleep and rise night and day, and the seed would sprout and grow, he does not know how. The earth produces of itself, first the stalk, then the head, then the full grain in the head. But when the grain is ripe, at once he goes in with his sickle, because the harvest has come."

Mark 4:26-29

Think

In this parable, Jesus is giving us an example of what the kingdom of God is like. There is a farmer who scatters seed on the ground. When finished with his work, he goes about his daily life. The seed grows and is ready to be harvested. The man is curious about the way the seed has grown without his care. He does not know that God has been nurturing the seed to grow.

God is the same way with you. Many people get caught up in their day to day situations, sometimes even forgetting to acknowledge God. Even when you find yourself busy with your daily routine, God is always nurturing and providing for you. God is giving you what is necessary for you to grow into a person who is full of life and a part of God’s kingdom!

Pray

God, thank you for always providing for me, even when I don’t realize it. Continue to nourish me into the person I am to become. Amen.

Go

Go now with your eyes watching,
Watching for the unfolding of God's words,
Words that give light,
Words that bring understanding
To even the most simpleminded.
