Journey to the Cross

Pause

What would happen if we were really honest with ourselves?

What might we decide to change or transform?

Listen

So I admitted my sin to you; I didn’t conceal my guilt. “I’ll confess my sins to the Lord, ” is what I said. Then you removed the guilt of my sin. Selah

Psalm 32:5

Think

A young man in my congregation had been a member of a youth gang. They dressed in button down shirts and nice slacks. They lived in the “good” part of town. They looked like clean-cut young men, but at night they would commit acts of terrible violence against others. Then, one day, this young man decided to get out. His conscience was burdened.

When I went to the rehabilitation center where he was living and undergoing re-socialization treatment, he confessed to me some of the things he had done. He had tried to confess them with God, but it hadn’t removed his burden.

Sometimes, in order for us to be free, we need to tell another person… someone who can listen without judgment and remind us of God’s forgiveness. Only then do we feel the guilt lifted from our conscience.

Pray

Give me the courage to tell someone, Lord, if I don’t feel like telling you is enough. Let my honesty with myself and another person lead me to the freedom that you want me to enjoy in Christ. Amen.

Go

Jesus said, “The truth shall set you free!” Live out of the truth about yourself this day.

You are an amazing and good creation of God, who sometimes fails to live up to God’s trust in you.
