Ordinary Time
Take a moment and imagine the spaces in your community that need the power of justice and love. What does the space look like? Who is present in those spaces? What can you do to create space to act there?
Shout joyfully to God, all the earth! Sing praises to the glory of God’s name! Make glorious his praise! Say to God: “How awesome are your works! Because of your great strength, your enemies cringe before you. All the earth worships you, sings praises to you, sings praises to your name!”
Psalm 66:1-4
I wonder when you last exclaimed with joy, “This is so awesome!” Maybe you screamed it on a roller coaster, looking at the stars, or after good news. Moments that fill us with awe have a way of stopping us right where we are, and the only thing we can seem to do is exclaim with joy how great the moment is as we are in awe.
These moments are when we might experience a little glimpse of what it means to make earth as it is in heaven. The work of God in our world and our lives calls for this kind of joyful response.
The psalm says all the earth will declare this praise—the stars, the trees, you and me—will all shout praises because of the work of God. When you sense your soul being filled with awe in such a way that the only words you can seem to come up with are, “How awesome,” I hope you know the presence of God is at work all around you.
