Ordinary Time

Pause

“O soul, are you weary and troubled?

No light in the darkness you see?

There’s light for a look at the Savior,

And life more abundant and free!”

“Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus,” Stanza 1

Listen

Let all those who are suffering eat and be full! Let all who seek the Lord praise him! I pray your hearts live forever! Every part of the earth will remember and come back to the Lord; every family among all the nations will worship you.

Psalm 22:26-27

Think

We’ve probably all been there before: sitting in a restaurant with a large group waiting for food, when suddenly a server appears with food for just a few. These fortunate, perhaps also unfortunate, folks face a dilemma. Do we wait to eat until everyone has their food? Or, since it’s such a large party, and our plates are ready, are we free to eat?

At God’s ideal table, all have food to eat. All are welcome. In our imperfect world, that is not always the case. We must, then, answer two very important questions. Is this a moment to share what I have with those in need? Or, have I been waiting so long that it’s time to enjoy the feast?

The answer lies in neither question. It is not about my own decision, but rather my own action. Have I provided for others at the table? Or, was my choice to be present reason enough to be fed? Whatever your personal journey, let those later questions, and their answers, be your guide.

Question to Ponder:

At God’s table, am I looking to eat or am I ready to share the meal with others?

Pray

Gracious God, at your table there is plenty for all. Yet, in our world, there are those who have and those who have not. Guide my focus to what matters most in each situation. Am I here to share or am I here to be fed? In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Go

“Turn your eyes upon Jesus,

Look full in His wonderful face,

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,

In the light of His glory and grace.”
