Ordinary Time
“O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!”
“Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus,” Stanza 1
So welcome each other, in the same way that Christ also welcomed you, for God’s glory.
Romans 15:7
In my experience, life abundant and free is found when surrounded by others who know me, love me, and make room for me to be myself. When I think about my closest friends, that handful of people who know me best, there’s an element of freedom to our relationship. No matter how I am feeling or what I am experiencing, I can turn to them, and they will provide anything from a listening ear to a shoulder to cry on to sound advice for moving forward.
At its best, I believe the body of Christ is like this: a place where others make space for us to learn more deeply who God created us to be, a place full of people who know and love us. These safe spaces leave room to decipher our passions, provide clarity and accountability, and in them God’s people bear the image of Christ: mourning with us in darkness and holding the light of God’s love, a glimpse of the savior.

Question to Ponder:
Who makes space for you to experience life abundant and free?
Lord of light, whether as a spark of hope or a lighthouse’s beam, you make clear my way forward. Though I cannot see you, I feel your presence in those who love and care for me. Help me today to appreciate the welcoming space provided to me and to imitate the love I’ve received from others to welcome anyone into your loving grace. Amen.
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.”
