Ordinary Time

Pause

It is time. It is time to be. Be still. Be silent if you can. Just be for a few moments.

The Good News will come to you, and God willing, come through you. Read, experience, and then share. But first, be.

Listen

We sailed from Troas straight for Samothrace and came to Neapolis the following day. From there we went to Philippi, a city of Macedonia’s first district and a Roman colony. We stayed in that city several days. On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the riverbank, where we thought there might be a place for prayer. We sat down and began to talk with the women who had gathered.

Acts 16:11-13

Think

One time I went to a church in Washington DC, where I’d heard that the then-President of the United States worshipped weekly in the very first service. I had no idea where the best location to sit was, so I just randomly chose a seat. Sure enough the President’s place was close to where I was, and we got to exchange kind “hellos” to one another as I went up for Eucharist and he was on his way down!

Sometimes the best place to be surprised is where we are. Those in our reading from Acts travel from here to there as a group. When they decide to settle upon the perfect place for prayer, what do they encounter? Others! Our faith journeys do not always have to feel like solitary practice. There are others out there, some right where you are in life, waiting to become a part of God’s “we.” Join them, as they join you and enrich each other’s journeys!

Pray

God I pray that today I will be grounded where I am with you in my faith. Help me to see where I am needed in my surroundings, and help me to encounter those who will enrich my own faith journey. Amen.

Go

You are never alone.

Remember this, and go out and find others; others who need the reminder of that Good News, and others who can bring God’s message to you.

Be who you are, and spread the Good News today.
