Pause

I know the plans I have in mind for you, declares the Lord; they are plans for peace, not disaster, to give you a future filled with hope. When you call me and come and pray to me, I will listen to you. When you search for me, yes, search for me with all your heart, you will find me. I will be present for you, declares the Lord…

Jeremiah 29:11-14a

May you enter into God’s peace and presence afresh.

Listen

“Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Whoever seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door is opened.”

Matthew 7:7-8

Think

Knock knock. Who’s there?

My last class of the day last year didn’t particularly like Social Studies. Discouraged, I struggled to engage them! One day a student veering off topic told a joke. They had one the next day too. Eventually, students eagerly asked for their joke of the day. While maybe never quite reaching the full engagement of young historians I’d imagined, we grew, and I was grateful!

Knock knock. Who’s there?

God promises doors will open. Yet in the reality of our daily living those doors don’t always feel open. Sometimes we search but can’t even find cracks of opportunity.

Knock knock. We’re here, and God is with us.

God graciously receives. We won’t know the fullness of God’s grace unless we are willing to seek, receive, and share it in bold and spontaneous ways. So let’s be door openers, carving out entryways of equity, weaving welcome mats in our world, veering to new dialogues seeking understanding today. The doors we’d imagined? Who knows? But God’s grace awaits afresh when we open them!

Pray

Thank you for always welcoming me, God.

You receive me fully into your grace and love afresh, just as I am.

Help me to live and love openly in your grace today, knocking down walls and opening doors so that others may enjoy the fullness of life in your grace today too.

Amen.

Go

Certainly the faithful love of the Lord hasn’t ended; certainly God’s compassion isn’t through! They are renewed every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22-23

Whether it’s morning or evening in your day, God’s grace is dawning.

May you be renewed by that fresh start and choose to live out that compassion.
