Journey to the Cross

Pause

Listen slowly —

You can hear something quickly, but you can really only listen slowly. Hearing may happen accidently, but listening only happens intentionally.

Sometimes, the Spirit whispers. Always Love listens.

Listen

After John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee announcing God’s good news, saying, “Now is the time! Here comes God’s kingdom! Change your hearts and lives, and trust this good news!”

Mark 1:14-15

Think

Jesus walked out of the wilderness, having gone through a time of testing, with a clear purpose: to announce God’s good news. In a broken world, where news outlets and social media are filled with anger, dissension, and hatred, we too are sent to share the good news.

A few weeks ago, Evan, my 7-year old, made a sign for a school assignment. Every student in his second-grade class had to make a sign with a few words. My wife sent me a picture of Evan holding his sign. It had some hearts on it and said, “I Love Everyone.”

That night at dinner, I said, “Evan. I saw your poster. Why did you write that on it?”

He said, “Nobody else would do it. So I did.”

Will you?

Pray

God of Grace, I am surrounded by so much noise that I often seem unable to hear your Good News. During this Lenten Season, help me to stop and to listen, then to go and proclaim that God has come near. God has come here to stand by us in struggle and to offer us strength. Amen.

Go

God gives you strength to overcome any struggle, blessings greater than your burdens. This is Good News.

Speak Up. Speak Out.
