Journey to the Cross

Pause

Listen slowly —

You can hear something quickly, but you can really only listen slowly. Hearing may happen accidently, but listening only happens intentionally.

Sometimes, the Spirit whispers. Always Love listens.

Listen

But don’t remember the sins of my youth or my wrongdoing. Remember me only according to your faithful love for the sake of your goodness, Lord.

The Lord is good and does the right thing; he teaches sinners which way they should go. God guides the weak to justice, teaching them his way. All the Lord’s paths are loving and faithful for those who keep his covenant and laws.

Psalm 25:7-10

Think

Sin, although certainly an ever-present reality, is not a popular conversation starter. And yet during Lent, we take time to do just that – to think and talk about sin. We can call it whatever we want… a mistake, an accident, an innocent error, a transgression, a trespass, a little white lie, bending but not breaking the law, fudging the numbers… But whatever we call it, it is sin. And we know sin exists because we see the results of sin in our world. Broken hearts. Broken lives. Broken people.

Healing begins with humility. God is not looking for perfect people. God meets us in our imperfection and offers us strength for our struggles and grace for our journey.

Pray

God of Mercy, meet me in the middle of the mess I have made of my life, forgive me of my failure to love you, others, and even myself. Help me to walk in humility and to live in gratitude for the precious gift of your steadfast love. Amen.
