Ordinary Time

Pause

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.

Listen

Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and God will say, “I’m here.” If you remove the yoke from among you, the finger-pointing, the wicked speech; if you open your heart to the hungry, and provide abundantly for those who are afflicted, your light will shine in the darkness, and your gloom will be like the noon. The Lord will guide you continually and provide for you, even in parched places. He will rescue your bones. You will be like a watered garden, like a spring of water that won’t run dry.

Isaiah 58:9-11

Think

Isaiah 58:9-11 offers a powerful message of hope and promise during times of uncertainty. During difficult times, sometimes all we can focus on is just making it through the day. God understands us and knows what we’re feeling, so God suggests that we pour into others, as they in turn, will pour into us. Working to help others is good for our souls – it shows the world that God’s love is within us.

We can see God’s love through those we dedicate our time and energy toward. God’s love for us is what connects us, replenishes us, and gives us the energy to keep going in the face of adversity. Let us commit to embodying the values of compassion, generosity, and justice in all that we do. May we be instruments of God’s peace and agents of transformation, working to bring about a world where the spring of justice will never run dry.

Question to Ponder:

What can I do to pour into others today?

Pray

God,

As I face times of uncertainty or hardship, help me to look out for your presence. Help me to find ways to pour into others, knowing that in turn, you are pouring into me.

Today, help me to show your love to…

Amen.
