Following the Star
God, open my ears to hear,
soften my heart to believe,
and guide my feet to walk in your paths.
May the Lord cause you to increase and enrich your love for each other and for everyone in the same way as we also love you. May the love cause your hearts to be strengthened, to be blameless in holiness before our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his people. Amen.
1 Thessalonians 3:12-13
It is easy to love those we like and agree with, but what about others? How can God grow love where there is discomfort, pain, and apathy? The Great Commandment gives us an idea of how we can grow in true affection for one another: by loving God and loving others as we love ourselves.
Love for others can be difficult if we do not truly accept, recognize, and evaluate ourselves. If I lack grace and acceptance towards myself, how can I grant the same to others? I am not saying to be selfish, but once I can truly accept what God has done for me despite my shortcomings, I can offer a love given by God and not from my own strength or desires.

Question to Ponder:
How do I love myself in a way that helps me love others?
God who loves my enemy, you who love me, help me to pour out affection and compassion from your well and not mine. Help me to love…
Amen.
May the birth, life, resurrection, and soon return of Jesus
inspire me to rejoice, obey, believe and hope.
