Ordinary Time
Think of something you want. Now think of something you need. In which of the two do you see God?
Instead, by speaking the truth with love, let’s grow in every way into Christ, who is the head. The whole body grows from him, as it is joined and held together by all the supporting ligaments. The body makes itself grow in that it builds itself up with love as each one does its part.
Ephesians 4:15-16
When I think about all the people who have blessed me in the course of my life, there are so many. Have you ever thought about all the people who have helped you? Family, friends, church folks, teachers? In your journey it is very important to see the quantity of God’s provision, but not in money or material things. It’s important to see God’s provision of community: the people who have invested time and love to help you grow along the way.
The text uses an interesting image: “Christ is the head.” The mind is what makes the body have movement, direction, and growth. In our lives, it is important to have Christ as the mind behind our action in order to grow in love and compassion, to ask and receive forgiveness, to serve, and to make the community a space of provision for people.
To be a community is not merely to be a group of people but to be intentional in including, loving, and respecting each other and all others.

Question to Ponder:
What has your community taught you?
God, help me to value my community.
Thank you for the way my community has helped me…
Amen.
Think about what people want. Now think about what they need. In which one can you show God?
