Pause

There are no donkeys for us to ride, no camels to take us through the desert. We are left mostly to walk through our days, dependent on our own two feet.

And the presence of the God who has come.

Travel well into the quiet of time given to God. Watch the horizon for a glimpse of God’s face.

Listen

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.

Galatians 4:4-7

Think

My cousin, adopted before I was born, was treated the same as the rest of the children in his home. I did not know about his adoption until he was an adult. It never occurred to me that he was not a blood relative. He referred to his father as “Daddy,” just as I did. He participated in all our family traditions and was an heir to our grandparents’ estate.

Be assured this day that God has adopted you, made you an heir to the kingdom, and placed the Spirit of God’s Son in your heart.

Pray

Abba Father, I give thanks for you this day as I bask in the knowledge that I am heir to your eternal kingdom and that the spirit of your Son lives in my heart. Amen.

Go

Dispersing the gloomy clouds of night,
Putting dark shadows to flight,
The Dayspring has come to cheer us.
The Lord has come to be near us.

Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel has come to thee, O Israel!
