Pause

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Romans 15:13

Listen

Because of this, I’m reminding you to revive God’s gift that is in you through the laying on of my hands. God didn’t give us a spirit that is timid but one that is powerful, loving, and self-controlled.

2 Timothy 1:6-7

Think

The last verse of today’s passage is worth reading… over and over. “God didn’t give us a spirit that is timid but one that is powerful, loving, and self-controlled.” Read that again. God’s gift of faith through the Spirit is not meant to be set on a shelf and admired for how wonderful it is, only to be dusted off for special occasions. God’s gift of faith is meant to be used, it’s meant to get dirty, and it’s meant to be well-worn like your favorite pair of old shoes that have been through everything, and I mean everything.

It’s not easy to be bold in our faith, but that’s what God is calling us to do. Be bold. Take some faith risks by living what you believe, by living a life that when people see you, they know there is something behind those actions – love, hope, faith. God never promised it would be easy, but God does promise to be with you in your boldness, for your source of boldness is God. Go and be bold!

Pray

Stir in me, O Lord, the spirit of boldness,

that I may live my faith in all things,

show my faith in all places,

and share my faith in confidence.

Amen.

Go

The gift of faith is yours;

Receive it so that it may refresh your soul,

Live it so that it brings inspiration to others,

And share it so that others may know the good gifts of God.
