Ordinary Time

Pause

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Romans 15:13

Listen

So don’t be ashamed of the testimony about the Lord or of me, his prisoner. Instead, share the suffering for the good news, depending on God’s power. God is the one who saved and called us with a holy calling. This wasn’t based on what we have done, but it was based on his own purpose and grace that he gave us in Christ Jesus before time began.

2 Timothy 1:8-9

Think

The Bible is full of people who lack the confidence to share what God has called them to do. Scared… unworthy… whatever they were feeling, they wondered whether they were the right person for the job. Have you ever felt that way? I have from time to time, and I’ve been in youth ministry for over 25 years. If you think about it, who is truly “worthy” to take on the task of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ?

But that’s the thing. In all the situations where people felt unworthy, God reminded them that it was God who called them, and it was God who made them worthy – whether they feel it or not. Maybe you’re like Timothy and not quite feeling it in your faith story or don’t want to share your faith story with others. Just know that God is with you in your efforts to try. God is the one who has given you the gift of faith and like all gifts, those gifts are meant to be shared. So don’t be deterred; you are an amazing person with a story to share. Share it.

Pray

God, I don’t always see in myself what you see in me.

Thank you for continuously moving me to fully realize what you have created me to be, your wonderful creation.

Amen.

Go

The gift of faith is yours;

Receive it so that it may refresh your soul,

Live it so that it brings inspiration to others,

And share it so that others may know the good gifts of God.
