Ordinary Time
Open your eyes widely to all that is around you…
Breathe deeply in this moment…
Feel the beat of your heart…
Seek the Holy Spirit…
Christ is just like the human body—a body is a unit and has many parts; and all the parts of the body are one body, even though there are many. We were all baptized by one Spirit into one body, whether Jew or Greek, or slave or free, and we all were given one Spirit to drink.
1 Corinthians 12:12-13
We all arrived at the mission site. The task on this first day was to build community. After a few warm-up games, the director was taking it to the next level.
We were invited to stand as close together as we could. She circled the group with a rope on the ground. This was followed by another circle with a rope 10 feet away. “You are on an island that is quickly sinking. Your task is to safely get everyone off this island to the other island. The ‘water’ between the two is shark infested!”
One person began barking orders, others began to debate, others completely checked out. Finally, the camp director said, “It only works if you all work together.” One by one each of us began to share ideas, building a plan that all of us believed would work. And it did!
Many parts – one body. When we use our gifts of the Spirit together we are more effectively able to build the Body of Christ.

God, thank you for the opportunities to collaborate with others, where we all get to share our gifts.
Help me to make sure that I am inviting others to partner with me in sharing their gifts.
Amen.
Seek ways this day that you may share your gifts of the Holy Spirit and affirm others to do likewise!
