Ordinary Time

Pause

Open your eyes widely to all that is around you…

Breathe deeply in this moment…

Feel the beat of your heart…

Seek the Holy Spirit…

Listen

I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I’m still alive. Let my praise be pleasing to him; I’m rejoicing in the Lord!

Psalm 104:33-34

Think

The group invited her to share her story because they had heard from others about how she had translated her trauma to inspire desperately needed change. Meeting with her beforehand, she shared that she was always nervous before she spoke. I assured her this was a loving group.

Thirty minutes later, she was surrounded by attentive listeners. Each shared their deep gratitude for her willingness to be vulnerable and the impact it had on them. An hour later, the crowd was nearly gone, and I thanked her again for her time with us.

She responded, “I am so grateful for the opportunity to share my story. But I’m even more grateful for the stories others shared with me. The Holy Spirit was clearly in our midst.”

One of the primary ways we can experience the Holy Spirit is in gratitude. Gratefulness to God. Grateful for the opportunity to share our gifts. Grateful for the opportunity to experience the gifts of others.

“Let my praise be pleasing.”

Thank you, God, for the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Help me to continue to seek out the Holy Spirit in all people and in all situations.

Amen.
