Ordinary Time

Pause

Open your eyes widely to all that is around you…

Breathe deeply in this moment…

Feel the beat of your heart…

Seek the Holy Spirit…

Listen

When Pentecost Day arrived, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound from heaven like the howling of a fierce wind filled the entire house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be individual flames of fire alighting on each one of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled them to speak.

Think

There is nothing like being in a big stadium when the home team comes onto the field or the court. Loud heart-pounding music, bright flashing lights, and often even a pyrotechnic show!

If you have been fortunate to experience a multi-sensory extravaganza such as this, you know how it completely pumps up your entire body as the ground under your feet literally shakes.

This is what I imagine Pentecost Day was like. Howling winds, flames of fire filling each person with the Holy Spirit, changing them forever.

That was THE Pentecost Day. And awesome as it was, the vast majority of us experience the presence of the Holy Spirit in much less extravagant ways. Pyrotechnics or gentle whisper, the invitation is to be open to the movement of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Pray

Thank you, God, for the movement of the Holy Spirit in my life.

Help me this day to become more and more aware of the Holy Spirit in my life and in others.

Amen.

Go

Seek ways this day that you may share your gifts of the Holy Spirit and affirm others to do likewise!
