Ordinary Time
One of the first Christians wrote, “There are two ways, one of life and one of death—and there is a great difference between these two ways.”
Today you face a choice about the way to live.
He has told you, human one, what is good and what the Lord requires from you: to do justice, embrace faithful love, and walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8
My church has a weekly lunch, clothing closet, and food pantry for our neighbors in need. Every Monday we welcome hundreds of guests into our church for community building, friendship, and assistance.
Transforming our church building into a community assistance hub involves a fair amount of chaos! Welcoming hundreds of people into the building stretches us every week. There are messes, crowds, noise, and occasionally frayed tempers.
I often tell people that “Mondays are the worst day of my week,” but I quickly follow that up by saying, “but somehow Mondays are also the best day of my week.” I think this is because of what the prophet Micah tells us: there is a way to live that is “good.” When we do justice and make the world more fair, that’s good. It might mean things are chaotic and we’re pushed outside of our comfort zones, and that’s ok! Living with justice is living the good life.

Question to Ponder:
What does justice look like in your everyday world—at school, online, or in your community?
God, help me today to do justice, embrace faithful love, and walk humbly with you. Amen.
Go to live in the love of God, the way of Jesus, and the peace of the Holy Spirit.
