Ordinary Time

Pause

Take a moment to breathe, to reflect on the past day, and to pray:

Did I search for happiness in things or in my relationship with the Creator?

Did I find ways to express my love to God and those around me?

God, open my heart to be more like Christ.

Listen

They are like a tree replanted by streams of water, which bears fruit at just the right time and whose leaves don’t fade. Whatever they do succeeds.

That’s not true for the wicked! They are like dust that the wind blows away.

Psalm 1:3-4

Think

Have you ever wondered if your life matters? I have. I have often wondered what my purpose is on this earth. I want to believe I have something to offer this world, something that will make a difference. Our scripture today says that when we follow God’s Instruction and do things God’s way, we will be successful and bear fruit at just the right time.

As I write this, there are professional athletes refusing to play in order to speak out against racial injustice in our country. Some would say these athletes are successful because of their salaries, their batting averages, or the number of championships they have won. Maybe they are in this position now to bear fruit that goes beyond their athletic abilities, using their influence to bring about a more just world.

You have a purpose. Your life matters to God. Seek God’s way for your life, and at the right time you will bear fruit that impacts others and honors your Creator.

Pray

God, you made me and gifted me uniquely to be your child here on this earth. Help me to watch and listen to your leading so that I am always ready for your good purposes to be accomplished in and through me. Amen.

Go

Go,

Offering yourself fully to God, faults and all,

Believing that God loves you without reservation,

As you seek to love God and the world with all that you are.
